The University of South Africa traces its roots to 1873 as the University of the Cape of Good Hope, and took its current form as a comprehensive open distance learning (ODL) institution after a 2004 merger with Technikon SA and Vista University. It is now one of the largest universities in Africa by student numbers, with the great majority of its students studying part-time while working. Because teaching is delivered through printed and online study material rather than physical lectures, students register centrally rather than attending a specific regional campus, though Unisa maintains a network of regional offices around the country for support, library access and exams. Its administrative head office and largest campus is on Muckleneuk Ridge in Pretoria.

UNISA Courses With a Low APS Requirement

46 of the 159 courses listed here ask for an APS of 24 or lower, starting at 20. A low APS still does not override subject requirements, so open the course page and check which subjects it asks for at what level.

Admission Requirements at UNISA

Two things decide an offer: your APS, and the specific subjects a programme requires at a minimum level. A high APS does not help if a compulsory subject is missing, so check both on the course page before you apply.

Across the 159 courses listed here, APS requirements run from 20 up to 23. Use the APS tool above to filter the list to what you qualify for right now.
