Grade 12 Required Subjects to study Bachelor of Oral Health Sciences (Oral Hygiene) at Wits
National Senior Certificate; English Home Language or First Additional Language at Level 4, Mathematics at Level 4 or Mathematical Literacy at Level 7, and Life Sciences and/or Physical Sciences at Level 4; a completed job-shadowing certificate (minimum 16 hours) is required. Applicants must sit the National Benchmark Test (NBT); the Faculty ranks candidates using a Composite Index built from (1) a 60% weighting on the matric average across English, Mathematics, the best of Physical Sciences/Life Sciences, and the best two other subjects, and (2) a 40% weighting on NBT scores.

This programme prepares oral hygienists to deliver preventive oral healthcare and hygiene services across settings ranging from schools and private practices to community health centres and the military. Study covers anatomy, oral biology, clinical oral health practice and behavioural sciences relevant to dental patients.
