Founded in 1918 in the historic town of Stellenbosch, Stellenbosch University has grown into one of South Africa's most respected research-intensive institutions, drawing students from across the country and abroad to its main campus in the Cape Winelands as well as its Tygerberg health sciences campus near Cape Town and its Elsenburg agricultural training site. Known locally as Maties, the university offers undergraduate study through ten faculties spanning agriculture, the arts and social sciences, economic and management sciences, education, engineering, law, medicine and health sciences, science, and theology, with tuition delivered in English and/or Afrikaans depending on the programme. Because Stellenbosch receives more applications than it has places, admission is competitive: rather than a single national points score, each faculty sets its own combination of NSC aggregate thresholds and subject-specific minimum percentages, and meeting them does not guarantee a place.

Entry

Admission Requirements at SU

Two things decide an offer: your APS, and the specific subjects a programme requires at a minimum level. A high APS does not help if a compulsory subject is missing, so check both on the course page before you apply.

We don't yet hold a numeric APS for any SU programme. The institution still scores applications, so treat each course page as the authority on what that qualification asks for, and confirm it with the faculty before you apply.
