Founded in Johannesburg in 1994, AFDA (The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance) has grown into a multi-campus creative-arts institution with sites in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha and, from 2026, Hatfield (Pretoria). It is a full member of CILECT, the international association of film and television schools, and its students and graduates have built a strong track record in national and international industry awards, including South Africa's only Student Academy Award win for a foreign-language film.

Admission Requirements at AFDA
Two things decide an offer: your APS, and the specific subjects a programme requires at a minimum level. A high APS does not help if a compulsory subject is missing, so check both on the course page before you apply.
We don't yet hold a numeric APS for any AFDA programme. The institution still scores applications, so treat each course page as the authority on what that qualification asks for, and confirm it with the faculty before you apply.
