Private universityThe Southern African Wildlife College was established in 1996 by WWF South Africa, on land donated by Hans Hoheisen, and opened to its first students in 1997. Located inside the Kempiana Nature Reserve near Hoedspruit on the western boundary of Kruger National Park, it has trained over 23,000 students from more than 60 countries and is recognised as a SADC centre of specialisation in conservation education. Its qualifications range from short field ranger certificates through to a three year diploma, combining classroom study with hands on training in a Big Five environment.
