Courses Offered at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) for 2027

Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University grew out of the former Medunsa campus of the University of Limpopo and was formally established as an independent institution in 2014, taking its name from the anti-apartheid leader and health professional Sefako Makgatho. As South Africa's only dedicated health sciences university, it concentrates its teaching, research and community engagement entirely on medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and the allied health professions through five specialist schools. Its Ga-Rankuwa campus combines academic training with clinical placements at accredited hospitals across Gauteng, Limpopo and North West, giving graduates practical exposure alongside strong grounding in primary health care and community-based service delivery.
