Courses Offered at Sol Plaatje University (SPU) for 2027

Sol Plaatje University is one of South Africa's newest public universities, established in Kimberley in 2014 to expand access to higher education in the Northern Cape and to help drive development in the province. Named after the writer, translator and political activist Solomon Tshekisho Plaatje, the university is organised into four faculties covering education, economic and management sciences, humanities, and natural and applied sciences, with programmes ranging from one-year higher certificates through to four-year bachelor's degrees. Its campus in Kimberley combines modern academic buildings with residence facilities, and the institution positions itself as closely tied to the identity and needs of the surrounding Northern Cape region, including a strong focus on producing qualified school teachers for the province. As a relatively young and comprehensive university, SPU continues to expand its qualification offering while emphasising practical, work-integrated learning across its disciplines.
