Welcome to the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) Application Guide for the 2025 academic year. Here, you’ll find essential information to help you prepare for your application to WSU. Please note that the application window for 2025 studies opens in March 2024 and closes on 30 September 2024. WSU Acceptance of National Certificate (Vocational-Level 4) Applicants

WSU welcomes applications from students holding a National Certificate (Vocational-Level 4). These applicants can register for Higher Certificate, Diploma, or Degree programs at WSU, provided they meet the following minimum entry requirements for applications:

Qualification Minimum Entry Requirements for Applicants

Higher Certificate Applications

  • Must meet NC(V) Level 4 statutory requirements.
  • 40% in either Home Language or First Additional Language; however, one must be the Language of Teaching and Learning (LOTL).
  • 50% in either Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy.
  • 40% in Life Orientation.
  • 50% in four other vocational subjects.
  • Submission of a record of evidence for any subject failed.

Diploma Applications

  • Must meet NC(V) Level 4 statutory requirements.
  • 50% in three fundamental subjects, including LOTL.
  • 60% in three compulsory vocational subjects.

Bachelor’s Degree Applications

  • Must meet NC(V) Level 4 statutory requirements.
  • 60% in three fundamental subjects, including LOTL.
  • 70% in three compulsory vocational subjects.
