About this course

The Bachelor of Theology Honours is a one-year, NQF Level 8 degree of at least 120 credits. It builds directly on the Bachelor of Biblical Studies or another NQF Level 7 theology degree and can be taken in contact or distance mode.

Core work in both semesters:
- Biblical Theology
- Christian Theological Ethics (first semester)
- Contemporary Theologies (second semester)
- Specialised Research, leading to a research paper
- Church Residency, continuing practical ministry in a local church

Students add two electives each semester. Options include Biblical Hebrew 3, Biblical Greek 3, Mission Skills, Pastoral Care, Youth Ministry, Church Ministry and Management, History of African Christianity, and African Realities.

The honours year sharpens research and theological thinking and prepares students for leadership in the church. BTC notes that this qualification is required for ministerial recognition in many denominations, including the Baptist Union of Southern Africa. Students who score at least 65% for the Specialised Research paper can apply for the Master of Theology.
