IIE Higher Certificate in Hospitality Management Course Requirements at IIE MSA

This one-year IIE qualification introduces the hospitality industry and prepares you for entry-level work in hotels, lodges, conference venues and events. It is offered on campus at Ruimsig Johannesburg, one of the few Emeris campuses that teach hospitality, and carries 120 credits at NQF Level 5 (SAQA ID 115450, code HIH1).

The programme was developed from the hospitality offering of the former School of Hospitality and Service Management, which is now part of Emeris. You learn how front office, rooms division and food and beverage operations work, as well as service standards, basic accounting and the legal side of hospitality. A work integrated learning module gives you real workplace experience.

- Semester 1: Digital and Academic Literacies, Food and Beverage Studies, Introduction to Front Office and Rooms Division Management, Introduction to Hospitality Management
- Semester 2: Basic Accounting, Food Service Management, Hospitality Legal Requirements, Hospitality Service Management, Work Integrated Learning 1

It suits school leavers with a higher certificate pass who enjoy working with people and want a quick route into the industry. Students who want to go further can look at the IIE Bachelor of Hospitality Management, also taught at Ruimsig.

Event Coordinator

Apply online through the Emeris undergraduate contact portal, choose Ruimsig Johannesburg as your campus and pay the R500 non-refundable application fee. Upload a copy of your ID (or certified passport for international students) and your latest school report or final Grade 12 results. Accept your offer on the portal and pay the R3 000 pre-registration fee, which is deducted from tuition, then submit certified documents for final approval. Applications for 2027 close on 30 October 2026, after which a R2 000 late fee applies.
