- Matriculated in 2008 or later: a National Senior Certificate or NCV that meets the minimum for degree study, with English at level 3 (40 to 49%) as a home language or level 4 (50 to 59%) as a first additional language, and Mathematics at level 3 (40 to 49%) or Mathematical Literacy at level 5 (60 to 69%)
- Matriculated before 2008: a Senior Certificate with university exemption and at least 40% for Mathematics (higher grade) or 50% (standard grade)
- A relevant NQF level 5 certificate may also be accepted
- Applicants with work experience may apply through RPL, and applicants aged 45 and older may apply as mature age applicants
About this course
The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in International Supply Chain Management is a 360-credit degree at NQF level 7 (SAQA ID 110628). It covers how goods move across borders, from buying and operations to transport, logistics, trade finance and international economics, and you choose a stream in either transport and logistics or procurement.
Modules by year (most carry 20 credits):
- Year 1: Academic Skills Development (non-credit), Business Management 1, Economic Principles, Financial Management 1, Project Management 1, Supply Chain Management 1, plus Transport and Logistics 1 or Procurement 1.
- Year 2: Business Management 2, Financial Management 2, Research Theory, Sales and Key Account Management, Supply Chain Management 2, plus Transport and Logistics 2 or Procurement 2.
- Year 3: Business Management 3, International Economics, International Supply Chain Project, Supply Chain Management 3, Trade Finance and Payments, plus Transport and Logistics 3 or Procurement 3.
IMM offers two study modes. Blended Hybrid learning adds optional face-to-face or live virtual classes at its student support centres, while Distance learning is fully flexible. Both use IMM's eLearn platform, with study materials, interactive content, live and recorded lectures, discussion forums and student support. The degree takes at least three years and must be completed within eight.
IMM's supply chain programmes are recognised by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT International), and supply chain management is listed as a scarce skill in South Africa. The degree suits school leavers with a bachelor's pass and people already working in procurement, warehousing, freight or distribution. Graduates who do well in their third-year supply chain modules can continue to the BCom Honours in Supply Chain Management and then the MCom in Supply Chain Management.
