About this course
The Bachelor of Creative Technologies (SAQA ID 118189, NQF 7, 360 credits) was designed as one of the first degrees of its kind in South Africa, bringing together design thinking, technology and user-centred problem solving. How the degree is structured:
- Year 1: the compulsory subjects Academic Practice, Drawing and Narrative, and Media Perspectives, plus choice subjects that lead into the majors.
- Years 2 and 3: a single or double major, supported by research, visual culture and professional practice subjects, with focus areas such as creative computing, entrepreneurship or marketing. Work-integrated learning is included.
Throughout the degree you practise research, prototyping, testing and iteration, working in Open Window's makerspace and computer labs as well as online. The emphasis is on crafting meaningful experiences across apps, websites, interactive installations and manufactured products.
The degree is offered at the Centurion, Johannesburg and Stellenbosch campuses. Graduates can continue to the BA Honours in Visual Communication or the Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Practice.
