About this course
This one-year higher certificate prepares you to enter the animation and visualisation industry as a 3D artist. The focus is on the modelling side of the 3D pipeline: building, texturing and presenting 3D assets using current industry software and methods.
You learn through practical projects that mirror studio briefs, supported by production essentials and process tools that teach you how professional pipelines work. Alongside the core 3D subjects you develop drawing, design and presentation skills, so you can explain and pitch your work. By the end of the year you have a portfolio of 3D models and renders to show employers or to use when applying for a degree.
The qualification is registered at NQF level 5 with 120 credits (SAQA ID 122882). It can be completed in one year full-time or two years part-time, using Open Window's hybrid and virtually-mediated model, where core subjects are streamed live from Centurion. Classes run Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 16:00 and Friday 08:00 to 15:00. Students who finish a higher certificate can apply to continue into a related Open Window degree, and a mid-year pathway allows some students to move straight into degree second year.
