Bridging Programme in Financial Management Course Requirements at University of Johannesburg

The Bridging Programme in Financial Management (BPFM, code S34F7Q) is a one-year, full-time programme in UJ's School of Accounting, Department of Accountancy, designed to help BCom (Accounting) graduates improve their performance so they become eligible for the BCom Honours in Financial Management and the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management. Alongside easing the transition into postgraduate study, it also builds competence in managing the finance function in a digital world for students who go straight into employment after completing it. The programme applies integrated knowledge and advanced conceptual thinking to complex problems in financial management, with a case study component covering all finance functions and how technology has shifted finance professionals toward a more advisory, business-partnering role. The programme is accredited with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA); students keep the eight exemptions already earned through their BCom (Accounting) degree toward the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation (jointly awarded by the American Institute of CPAs and CIMA), and can then write the remaining eight CIMA exams directly.
