Grade 12 Required Subjects to study IIE Bachelor of Commerce at Varsity College
- A National Senior Certificate with a bachelor's degree pass, at least 50% for English and 30% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical Literacy or Technical Mathematics
- An NC(V) bachelor's pass needs 50% English and 50% Mathematics or 60% Mathematical Literacy
- A Senior Certificate with endorsement needs 50% English and 30% Mathematics
- International applicants need a USAf exemption certificate
- A cognate higher certificate, diploma or advanced certificate may be accepted instead
- If your English is 40% to 49%, you may still be considered if you got at least 50% in final Grade 11
- RPL and mature age exemption are also considered
About this course
The IIE Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) is the flagship business degree across the former Varsity College campuses. It is a 360-credit IIE qualification at NQF Level 7 (SAQA ID 84706), offered full-time on nine campuses and online through Emeris Online, where you can take three, four or six years to finish.
First year gives everyone the same foundation: Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Applied Communication Techniques and Introduction to Marketing. From second year you follow one of four streams:
- Marketing Management
- Financial Management
- Strategic Management
- Finance and Accounting
Depending on your stream, later modules include financial management, marketing, business law, digital marketing, project management, retail and supply chain management, taxation, information and knowledge management, enterprise risk management and research practice. Work Integrated Learning helps you apply theory to real business problems before you graduate.
The BCom suits learners who want a flexible business degree that opens many doors, from corporate jobs to running their own business. Several IIE higher certificates, including Business Principles and Practice, Human Resource Practices and Logistics and Supply Chain Management, can articulate into this degree. Graduates can continue to the IIE BCom Honours in Management or a postgraduate diploma.
