About this course
The IIE Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is the professional law degree you need to become an attorney, advocate, prosecutor or magistrate in South Africa. The four years move from foundations to procedure and practice:
- Year 1: Law of Persons, Constitutional Law, Legal Interpretation and English for Law
- Year 2: Criminal Law, Contract Law, Family Law, Succession and Administrative Law
- Year 3: Criminal Procedure, Labour Law, Delict and Property Law
- Year 4: Civil Procedure, Evidence, Jurisprudence, Legal Ethics and Public International Law
Alongside the law modules you develop research, writing, argument and oral skills that are essential in legal practice.
The LLB suits learners with strong language skills who enjoy reading, debating and solving problems. After graduating you complete articles or pupillage and the relevant professional exams to be admitted as an attorney or advocate. Graduates can also continue to an LLM, including the online IIE Master of Laws in Integrative Dispute Resolution and Advanced Litigation Techniques. Students with a BA in Law, BCom in Law or Higher Certificate in Legal Studies can articulate into the LLB.
