Courses Offered at IIE MSA (IIE MSA) for 2027

IIE MSA was the private higher education campus in Ruimsig, on the West Rand of Johannesburg, that began life as Monash South Africa. Australia's Monash University opened the campus in 2001 on former farmland in Ruimsig, Roodepoort. In 2019 ownership passed to The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), part of the JSE-listed ADvTECH group, and the campus was renamed IIE MSA.

In 2026 The IIE brought IIE MSA, Varsity College, Vega School and the School of Hospitality and Service Management together under one brand called Emeris. The former IIE MSA campus now operates as the Emeris Ruimsig Johannesburg campus, and the old iiemsa.co.za website redirects to emeris.ac.za. Qualifications are unchanged: all programmes are IIE qualifications, accredited by the Council on Higher Education and registered on the NQF by SAQA, and certificates are issued by The Independent Institute of Education (Pty) Ltd. The IIE is registered with DHET as a private higher education institution (registration number 2007/HE07/002).

What the campus is known for
Emeris describes Ruimsig as the largest private higher education campus in South Africa. It is a full, self-contained campus with:
- A three-storey library and modern lecture theatres
- On-campus student residences with residence assistants
- A gym, a campus clinic staffed by a nurse, and several eateries
- Basketball, volleyball, tennis and netball courts and a rugby and soccer field
- 24-hour security and access control

IIE MSA was best known for engineering, public health and the social sciences, and those programmes continue here. Ruimsig is the only Emeris campus that offers the Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the Bachelor of Public Health and its honours degree, the Bachelor of Business Science Honours and the Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing.

Faculties and schools
Programmes at Ruimsig are run by these Emeris faculties and schools:
- IIE Faculty of Commerce, including hospitality management and corporate governance
- School of Finance and Accounting
- IIE Faculty of Education
- IIE Faculty of Humanities
- IIE Faculty of Law
- School of Computer Science
- School of Engineering, Science and Health

Qualifications range from one-year higher certificates to three- and four-year degrees, honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas. Most teaching at Ruimsig is full-time contact study. Many of the same qualifications, and master's and doctoral degrees, are also available through Emeris Online.

Fees and funding
For 2027, first-year tuition at Ruimsig ranges from about R48 000 for the hospitality higher certificate to about R140 000 for mechanical and electrical engineering. Residence fees for 2027 are R72 100 to R77 500 a year. Emeris offers discounts for upfront payment, 10-month plans, a 24-month Emeris Extender plan, Capitec education loans, a fee support programme, and merit scholarships and bursaries.

How to apply
Apply online through the Emeris portal and choose Ruimsig Johannesburg as your campus. The application fee is R500. If you receive an offer, you accept it on the portal and pay a R3 000 pre-registration fee that is later deducted from tuition. Applications for 2027 on-campus undergraduate study close on 30 October 2026, after which a R2 000 late fee applies. You can also book a campus visit or appointment through the Emeris website.
